The key element to this type of facial is something called platelet-rich-plasma (PRP for short). This compound is normally found in your body and it is rich with what are called growth factors. These growth factors are specific to you–so the PRP used in your treatment will always come from your own body. On the day of your appointment, a specialist will draw a small amount of blood and then process that blood in order to separate the platelet-rich-plasma.

Good candidates for PRP facials are typically looking to take their skin to the next level. Because PRP facials involve Microneedling performed with SkinPen, good candidates will also be familiar with that procedure and what it entails. In general, good candidates for PRP facials will:

• Be well-hydrated for 24 hours prior to treatment
• Want to reduce uneven and dull skin tone
• Be looking for a way to use their own growth factors for skin rejuvenation
• Have a desire to eliminate or mitigate lines and wrinkles
• Want to minimize the signs of aging in the face
• Want to address age spots or color variations in the face
• Be in generally good health
• Not currently use tobaccos products, such as cigarettes
• Not have blood disorders or difficulty drawing blood

PRP facials are designed to help patients look more youthful and energized by helping the skin rejuvenate itself. The actual process is called “cell turnover.” Essentially, the idea is that the newer cells, when activated simultaneously, will lead to a younger looking face. Adding PRP to a SkinPen also reduces redness and irritation by up to 50% on day 2 and beyond.

Results from PRP facials are usually driven by your body’s own healing mechanisms, which means that your transformation may not be immediately apparent. It may take up to three months for your body’s cell regeneration process to fully initialize and yield results. Many patients, too, may benefit from multiple treatments over time.

In cases where three to four treatments are performed, results from a PRP facial generally last anywhere between 18-24 months. Depending on the area treated, patients report diminished discoloration and increased radiance in the skin around the eyes and face. This leads to the appearance of being more energized and alert.
