Minneapolis Anti-Aging and Skin Clinic now offers two great body contouring options for our Twin Cities patients. These body contouring options are entirely non-invasive and typically require no downtime. This means that you can use these procedures to help sculpt your body, contour your curves, and trim unwanted areas of fat all without requiring a significant recovery period.
We’re excited about all of the ways in which these two procedures complement each other, giving our patients more options than ever to look slimmer and more youthful.
Coolsculpting: Brand New at Minneapolis Anti-Aging and Skin Clinic
We’re happy to announce the introduction of a brand new non-invasive body contouring option to our clinics: Coolsculpting. Older incarnations of Coolsculpting have been around for a number of years now, but the most recent generation of Coolsculpting devices really impressed Dr. Gervais and Dr. Tholen. At that point–with this newest revolution in technology–the doctors decided to bring this treatment option to Minneapolis Anti-Aging and Skin Clinic.
If you’ve heard of Coolsculpting you may have an idea of how it works, using cold to diminish unwanted deposits of fat. This approach is effective because your skin has a higher threshold for cold than fat cells within your body.
A Coolsculpting device has two actions:
- Application of Cold: High intensity cold is applied to the target area. This cold has the dual effect of numbing the skin to minimize discomfort and breaking down fat cells that are located near the skin.
- Suction: Coolsculpting devices employ a suction action in order to ensure as much fat as possible is exposed to the cold of the Coolsculpting device. This also ensures that the cold is evenly distributed.
Most Coolsculpting sessions take an hour or two to complete. Patients are usually advised to bring something to entertain them during the session, such as a tablet, book, or laptop. Results will usually begin to manifest several weeks after the initial appointment.
Kybella: Targeting Submental Fat
The other significant body contouring procedure offered at Minneapolis Anti-Aging and Skin Clinic is Kybella. We’ve been offering Kybella for a couple of years now, and the results have been outstanding. Kybella is an injectable capable of minimizing and mitigating unwanted fat. Currently approved for treatment of the so-called “double chin,” Kybella is a popular option for patients who want a slimmer, more athletic looking jawline.
In most cases, patients will come in for a relatively quick appointment–usually less than thirty minutes. Once the injections into the chin are made, it will take several weeks for patients to notice peak results.
In general, patients notice a significant reduction in the amount of fat that appears around the jawline. It may take several sessions in order for patients to see their desired results–and Kybella is unable to address issues caused by excess skin. But the bottom line is that this injectable can effectively melt fat away with no downtime or recovery necessary.
Which Body Contouring Option Should I Choose?
While they are both non-invasive body contouring options, comparing Kybella and Coolsculpting is like comparing apples and oranges. The two are simply different. Many patients, however, have questions about which procedure would better serve their overall needs and desired results.
Generally speaking, Coolsculpting might be a better option if:
- You wish to contour larger areas of your body.
- You want to achieve more comprehensive results.
- You can make yourself available for a two hour-plus appointment window.
Kybella might be a better option if you:
- Want to achieve results only around your jawline.
- You want to eliminate a double chin.
- You can make yourself available for a thirty minute appointment window.
The general rule of thumb is that Kybella is great for the double chin (for now), but Coolsculpting is a good fit for just about everything else. It’s also worth mentioning that these two procedures are not mutually exclusive! Some patients will opt to undergo both Coolsculpting and Kybella in order to achieve their desired final results.
A Non Invasive Approach
Ultimately, both Kybella and Coolsculpting are viable approaches to non invasive body contouring. Results for both procedures tend to become visible within several weeks and tend to favor the subtle side of what’s possible. Patients who want to achieve bold transformations will often favor liposuction. But the post-operative recovery associated with that surgical procedure make non-invasive options quite tempting for many patients.
When it comes to both Kybella and Coolsculpting, most patients are able to return to normal, daily activities immediately after their procedures. This means that both Kybella and Coolsculpting can create results with minimal interruption to your normal schedule and routine.
In other words, Coolsculpting and Kybella are both effective, minimally invasive, and convenient. When it comes to eliminating unwanted fat, it’s easy to see why these two procedures are so popular!
