Winter is fast approaching, and that usually means crammed schedules and busy days ahead (not to mention the snow). But it’s important to take some time for you this winter, and that’s why we’re highlighting some of our favorite skin-rejuvenation and restoration procedures. The cold, dry air can take a toll on you, but you can still rejuvenate your skin this winter with these procedures from Minneapolis Anti-Aging and Skin Clinic.
Patients who are concerned about their skin usually have two areas of focus. First, many patients are concerned about wrinkles–not only the development of new lines and wrinkles, but how deep those wrinkles might be. Second, many patients are also concerned about mitigating damage to the skin.
How Does Winter Damage the Skin?
Winter is a season, as natural as sunlight and fresh air. So how can it damage your skin? Unfortunately, there are plenty of ways that winter can have a detrimental impact on your skin (the same is true of fresh air and sunlight, but that’s another conversation). There are two significant ways in which winter can wreak havoc with your skin:
- Dry air: When it comes to your skin, dry air is more than a simple inconvenience. Dry air can create all kinds of issues, exacerbating lines and wrinkles and creating areas of discoloration. So when the humidity drops during winter (because all of the water molecules in the air are frozen), your skin can pay a heavy price. Now only does the dry air exacerbate the effects of aging, dry air can feel particularly uncomfortable too.
- Wind: With winter comes wind–and a windchill, specifically. If you think about it, wind (over time) can weather mountains, so we shouldn’t be surprised by what wind does to our skin. First, wind has a tendency to dry out your skin, whisking away needed moisture (and we’ve already established that dryness is bad for your skin). Second, wind can be abrasive, causing spots to form and worsening lines and wrinkles. True, wind is not exclusive to winter–but combined with the already dry air, it can be quite detrimental to your skin.
Of course, it’s not only the wind and dry air you’ll need to keep an eye out this winter. Cold can do a number on your skin, for example. But it does start to become obvious why, during those winter months, we might need to pay a little bit of extra attention to our skin in order to keep it looking its best.
How to Rejuvenate Your Skin
Skin experiences damage over time. There’s no getting around that, though in some cases that damage can be minimized. However, there are ways to rejuvenate skin that has been compromised in some way–either by aging or a combination of factors that include the weather. Some of our most popular skin rejuvenation treatments include the following:
HydraFacial
HydraFacial is the single most popular facial on the market today, and for good reason. Where most facials will use friction as an abrasive base, HydraFacial uses a fluid-based approach. Where many other facial procedures will leave your skin feeling dry and raw (a particularly uncomfortable combination in winter), HydraFacial is designed to leave the skin feeling refreshed and moisturized.
HydraFacial has a patented revitalizing process in which a collagen and antioxidant rich serum is applied to the skin. (Meaning, not only does HydraFacial end up looking good, it ends up feeling good as well.)
SkinPen
Much of the damage to the skin caused by winter can be superficial. That’s why SkinPen treatments are a popular option among patients who want to look a little more youthful and refreshed. SkinPen targets the the outermost layers of tissue, applying several thousand microscopic pokes to the skin. These tiny pokes don’t cause any lasting damage, but collectively they trick the body into releasing a significant amount of healing compounds.
With little damage to repair, these healing compounds instead go about rejuvenating the skin. SkinPen is a great way to address age spots, discoloration, acne scars, and fine lines and wrinkles. In other words, SkinPen can help your face look great despite the winter doldrums!
Laser Hair Removal
All right, so Laser Hair Removal doesn’t exactly fit into the “rejuvenation” category. It’s a procedure that many patients undergo for purely aesthetic and convenience purposes: they want smooth skin without all the fuss that goes into shaving or waxing!
But winter is a great time to have your laser hair removal procedure. That’s because, in order for laser hair removal to be effective, you need to let your hair grow out. Winter is a fantastic time to do that because, well, your legs are covered anyway. And you’ll be ready to show off your smooth skin by the time summer actually does come back around.
Rejuvenate Your Skin and Your Spirits This Winter
Rejuvenating your skin is just part of the fun. Getting rid of some lines or wrinkles can give you a nice boost over the next few months of dreary weather. It’s the simple pleasure of doing something nice for yourself. So, whether you’re thinking about Botox, SkinPen, HydraFacial, or any of our dozens of procedures, winter is a really great time to make it happen.
